Vase by Kawaguchi Bunzaemon 1860–post 1910, cloisonné enamel, Meiji period, late 19th century. Slender vessel with a long thin neck, height 30.6 cm, width 7.8 cm. Decoration: two pine trees growing on a seaside rock, the rolling sea and two flying cranes. Japan, Nagoya., A tall, narrow vase with a long neck and rounded body stands against a plain gray background; the surface shows a gradient of colors from pale off-white near the neck to light blue and turquoise toward the base, with visible texture and subtle iridescent sheen; a branch with green foliage wraps partway around the upper body, the branch rendered in brown and the leaves in shades of green; the rim and base have thin dark edges in a muted gray or black.
