Vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki 1845–1927, ca. 1890–1905 Meiji period, 1868–1912, Kyoto, Japan. Small, slender cloisonné enamel vase, height 18.0 cm, diameter 7.8 cm, with body tapering to a ring-shaped silver foot and a short neck with a spout enclosed by a silver ring. Ornamental shippo cloisonné border with rosettes in rhomboid fields at the foot and a similar ornament on the neck. Petal decoration filled with stylized phoenix images flows down to the shoulders. Belly covered in shiny black enamel with six colorful fan-shaped reserves depicting floral and bird motifs, executed in the yusen technique with silver wires. Silver plaque mounted in the mirror of the bottom engraved: Kyoto Namikawa., A tall, slender vase with a glossy black background and a narrow neck, decorated with several inset panels showing floral and bird scenes; the neck and base have patterned bands in cream, green, and gold, and the upper shoulder features ornate curving motifs in green, red, blue, and gold. One large pale cream panel shows hanging purple blossoms, green foliage, and a small dark bird, bordered by a scalloped dark edge with multicolored floral details; adjacent panels include a bright blue section with white flowers and green leaves, a light green area with pink and red blossoms, and a muted tan segment with small dark birds. The overall color palette includes black, cream, green, gold, blue, purple, red, and hints of pink, with reflective highlights on the vase’s glossy surface.
