Vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki 1845–1927, ca. 1890–1905 Meiji period. A small, slender cloisonné enamel vase, height 18.0 cm, diameter 7.8 cm. The body tapers toward the bottom and terminates in a ring-shaped silver foot; the short neck is slightly parted at the spout and enclosed by a silver ring. An ornamental shippo motif border with rosettes in rhomboid fields decorates the foot and a similar band the neck. Petal-shaped decorations filled with stylized phoenix images flow down to the shoulders. The belly is covered with shiny black enamel decorated with six colorful fan-shaped reserves bearing various floral and bird motifs, executed with meticulous precision in the yusen technique using silver wires. A silver plaque mounted in the mirror of the bottom is engraved “Kyoto Namikawa.” Japanese; Kyoto., A tall, slender vase with a glossy black background decorated with several fan-shaped panels showing floral and bird motifs; one panel features white and green flowers with red accents on a brown background, another shows a small bird perched on a branch with green leaves on a pale background, and a lower panel displays green leaves and purple flowers on a muted beige background. The neck and foot of the vase have geometric border patterns in colors including yellow, green, blue, and brown, and there are additional decorative swirls in green and brown near the shoulder. Visible colors include black, brown, beige, white, green, red, yellow, blue, purple, and muted gold.
