Vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki 1845–1927, cloisonné enamel, ca. 1890–1905 Meiji period. A small, slender vase tapering toward the bottom and terminating in a ring-shaped silver foot. The top arms merge into a short neck slightly parted at the spout, enclosed by a silver ring. An ornamental shippo cloisonné border with rosettes in rhomboid fields decorates the foot and neck; petals filled with stylized phoenix images flow down to the shoulders. The belly has glossy black enamel with six colorful fan-shaped reserves showing various floral and bird motifs, executed in the yusen technique with silver wires. A silver plaque with an engraved signature reading Kyoto Namikawa is mounted in the mirror of the bottom. Kyoto, Japan. Height 18.0 cm; diameter 7.8 cm., A tall, oval-shaped decorative vase with a glossy black background covered in a patchwork of fan-shaped panels containing floral and botanical motifs, showing colors including black, brown, white, green, blue, yellow, red, teal, purple, and gold; the neck and foot of the vase have geometric band patterns in gold and cream with dark outlines, and the upper shoulder area features ornate scrolling and stylized bird-like shapes in gold, blue, and brown; one panel shows a branch with white and red flowers and teal leaves on a brown ground, another shows green ivy leaves on a white ground, another shows purple flower stalks on a light green ground, and a blue panel with decorative edging is visible near the lower body, all set against a light gray background.
