Vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki 1845–1927, ca. 1890–1905 Meiji period. A small, slender cloisonné enamel vase, height 18.0 cm, diameter 7.8 cm. The body tapers toward the bottom and terminates in a ring-shaped silver foot; the short neck is slightly parted at the spout and enclosed by a silver ring. An ornamental shippo motif border with rosettes in rhomboid fields encircles the foot and a similar border adorns the neck. From the neck a decoration of petals filled with stylized phoenix images flows down to the shoulders. The belly is covered with shiny black enamel and decorated with six colorful fan-shaped reserves showing various floral and bird motifs, executed with meticulous precision in the yusen technique using silver wires.
