Small spherical cloisonné enamel vase, one of a pair, on a low ring foot and a round ring spout, both elements set in silver-plated metal. Decorated with a realistically depicted, colorful motif of red veil fish with wisteria leaves and flowers hanging above on a light blue background. The bottom bears a maker’s mark in the form of a flaming pearl with the character ko in katakana — the mark of enameller Gonda Hirosuke of Nagoya. Circa 1890–1910. Nagoya, Japan. Vessel; height 9.0 cm, diameter 8.2 cm., A rounded ceramic vase with a narrow neck and rim finished in metallic copper, decorated on a pale blue background with a hanging floral motif in shades of purple, white, green, and dark blue, and showing a pair of swimming fish rendered in shades of red, pink, orange, and white with delicate fin details; the vase sits against a light gray backdrop.
