Vase, Gonda Hirosuke 1865–1937 maker. Small spherical cloisonné enamel vase, one of a pair, on a low ring foot and a round ring spout, both set in silver-plated metal. Decorated with a realistic, colorful motif of red veil fish beneath hanging wisteria leaves and flowers on a light blue background. The bottom bears a brand in the form of a flaming pearl with the character yu written in katakana — the mark of enameller Gonda Hirosuke of Nagoya. Circa 1890–1910 Meiji 23–43, Nagoya, Japan. Height 9.0 cm; diameter 8.2 cm., A pale blue rounded ceramic vase with a narrow rim and base finished in a metallic warm tone, decorated with trailing floral motifs in shades of purple, green, and brown and a small stylized red and pink bird-like form near the lower side, all set against a light gray gradient background.
