Vase, cloisonné enamel, floral pattern with butterflies and plant ornaments; Meiji period 1868–1912, Japan; background of decoration in reserves: dense green floral rosettes and butterflies; 19th/20th century; vessel; height 15.3 cm, width 8.7 cm, depth 8.2 cm., A tall vase with an elongated ovoid shape standing on a short foot and a narrow neck, decorated with a repeating panel design; the main background color around the panels is a bright mottled green, the panels themselves alternate between a pale beige and a soft blue, and the neck rim and foot edge show a metallic bronze tone. The panels contain floral motifs rendered in greens, whites, purples, blues, reds, and muted pinks, with leafy stems and clusters of blossoms; thin brown outlines separate the panels from the green ground and small decorative cartouche shapes in cream and brown accent the panel borders. The surface has a glossy finish that produces a subtle reflection of the vase on the smooth gray surface beneath it, and the overall lighting is even, showing the colors and painted details clearly against a neutral light gray background.
