Vase, cloisonné enamel. Vase on a small, ring-shaped foot with a short neck ending in a spout widening toward the top. Decoration: stylized plant ornament in six reserves alternating dragon and phoenix motifs Japanese dragon, hoo/phoenix. Meiji period, ca. 1890–1900. Japan, Kyoto. Vessel; height 15.0 cm, diameter 8.0 cm., A decorative vase with a flared rim and rounded body sits centered against a plain gray background, displaying a color palette of deep blue, white, red, gold, green, and brown. The upper neck area features an intricate white and blue scrolling pattern with gold accents and a metallic gold rim. Below that a band of red with floral motifs in white and gold encircles the shoulder. Panels of white panels framed with gold and black outlines descend along the body, each panel containing ornate multicolored designs including stylized birds and curling foliage in greens, reds, blues, and browns. The lower portion of the vase is a deep blue with small decorative motifs in gold and pale blue near the base, and the vase rests on a reflective surface that creates a faint mirror image of the base.
