Small ovoid, bulging bottle on a very low round foot framed in silver-plated metal, with a short narrow neck and flared spout also framed in silver-plated metal. Body covered with transparent red enamel akasuke technique, developed ca. 1880 in Nagoya decorated with water birds—plovers chidori—rendered with the yusen technique using thin silver wires, shown flying over foaming waves or perching on the water. Motif combines naturalism and decorative stylization typical of Japanese design. Signature engraved in kanji on the bottom: Hayakawa zo tsukuru, the mark used by enameller Hayakawa Komejirô.
