Vase, gift, repossession. Cloisonné enamel vase on a small ring-shaped foot, with a short neck ending in a spout widening toward the top. Decoration: stylized plant ornament, alternating dragon and phoenix hoo in six reserves; motifs include Japanese dragon and phoenix, plant ornament. Meiji period, ca. 1890–1900. Japan, Kyoto. Vessel; height 15.0 cm, diameter 8.0 cm., A decorative vase sits against a plain gray background, showing a glossy surface and a rounded body with a narrow neck and flared rim. The vase displays a palette of blue, white, red, gold, brown, and touches of black, with ornate floral and scroll patterns covering the neck and shoulders. Panels around the midsection contain stylized dragon or serpent-like motifs in blue and brown against white cartouches edged in gold, set above a deep blue lower section with gold accents and small decorative elements. The rim and base have metallic brownish-gold tones, and the vase is reflected faintly on the surface beneath it.
