Vase, Cloisonné enamel vase on a small, ring-shaped foot, with a short neck ending in a spout widening toward the top. Decoration: stylized plant ornament; alternating dragon and phoenix hoo in six reserves; motifs include Japanese dragon and phoenix. Meiji period, ca. 1890–1900. Japan, Kyoto. Vessel. Height 15.0 cm; diameter 8.0 cm., A single ornate vase centered against a plain gray background, showing a bulbous body with a flared rim and a narrow neck; the rim appears metallic brown, the neck and upper shoulder have a cream base with intricate blue and gold floral-like patterns, the shoulder also includes a band of reddish-brown decorated with cream and gold floral motifs, a few scalloped white panels around the midsection contain multicolored decorative motifs in shades of blue, green, red, and brown, the lower body is a deep navy blue with small gold and cream embellishments near the base, and the vase rests on a reflective surface that mirrors its colors.
