Vase, ovoid one of a pair, slender, on a low ring-shaped foot with a narrow neck flaring at the rim; foot and mouth framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a motif of a blooming iris bush rendered with naturalistic fidelity and varied color tones. Executed using the yusen technique against a uniform sea-green background; narrow, colorful borders around the foot and rim also made with yusen, composed of small triangular forms called cicada wings. Cloisonné enamel. Meiji period, ca. 1900., Nagoya, Japan. Vessel. Height 25 cm; width 9.7 cm; depth 8.8 cm., A tall, slender vase with a narrow neck and flared rim, finished in a deep teal color, decorated with floral motifs including pale white and light purple blossoms and long green leaves, with a decorative band of red, blue, white, and gold near the base and a subtle scalloped gold trim under the rim; the surface appears glossy and reflective against a neutral gray background.
