Vase, gift, repossession Krakow, irises, Meiji 1868–1912, Japanese, cloisonné enamel, ovoid vase one of a pair, slender on a low ring-shaped foot with a narrow neck flaring at the rim. The foot and mouth are framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a motif of a blooming iris bush rendered naturalistically with varied color tones. Executed using the yusen technique, the motif is set against a uniform sea-green background. Around the foot and rim are narrow colorful borders also in yusen, composed of small triangular forms called cicada wings. Ca. 1900 Meiji Period, Nagoya, Japan. Vessel; height 25 cm, width 9.7 cm, depth 8.8 cm., A tall, slender vase with a narrow neck and flared rim stands against a neutral gray background, the main body showing a deep teal color with glossy reflections, a band of brown around the rim, a patterned edge in reds, blues, and whites at the base, and delicate painted botanical motifs in shades of green and pale gray on one side.
