Vase, ovoid one of a pair, slender on a low ring-shaped foot with a narrow neck flaring at the rim; foot and mouth framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a naturalistic blooming iris bush in a variety of color tones, executed using the yusen cloisonné enamel technique against a uniform sea-green background. Narrow colorful borders of small triangular cicada wing forms around the foot and rim. Cloisonné enamel, ca. 1900 Meiji period, 1868–1912. Japan, Nagoya. Vessel. Height 25 cm; width 9.7 cm; depth 8.8 cm., A tall, slender vase with a narrow neck and flared rim, shown against a neutral gray background, finished in a deep teal color with a glossy surface; one side of the vase features a painted botanical motif with long green leaves and a few flower buds and blossoms in shades of white, purple, and pale yellow; the rim and base have decorative bands incorporating colors such as gold, red, blue, and white; soft reflections appear on the vase surface and on the surface beneath it.
