Vase, Ovoid vase one of a pair, slender, on a low ring-shaped foot and a narrow neck, flaring at the rim. The foot and mouth are framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a motif of a blooming iris bush, captured with naturalistic fidelity and attention to a variety of color tones. Executed using the yusen cloisonné enamel technique, the motif is placed against a uniform sea-green background. Around the foot and the rim there are narrow, colorful borders, also made using the yusen technique, composed of small triangular forms called cicada wings. Japanese, Nagoya; ca. 1900 Meiji period, 1868–1912. Vessel; height 25 cm, width 9.7 cm, depth 8.8 cm., A tall, narrow-necked vase with a glossy teal surface decorated with a floral design; the painted flowers include large purple blooms with yellow accents and several white blooms with subtle gray shading, all set among long green leaves and stems in varying shades of green; the vase has a brown rim and a decorative band of red and patterned colors around the base; the background is a smooth gradient of light gray.
