Vase by Miwa, Tomisaburô fl. ca late 19th–early 20th century. Cloisonné enamel elongated vase, Meiji period 1868–1912, early 20th century, Japan. Decoration: white and blue irises in the background; cranes engraved and polished in foil among plants, standing in water; foil covered with transparent enamel. Vessel; height 12.2 cm, diameter 5.1 cm., A tall vase with a rounded shoulder and narrow neck displayed against a plain pale background, featuring a textured surface in shades of turquoise, aqua, and blue that deepen toward the base; decorative floral motifs include a large blue petaled flower near the shoulder, a pale cream and yellow flower lower on the body, and a few long green leaves and stems reaching upward, along with areas of muted gold and brown mottling; the rim and base have darker edging and the vase sits on a reflective surface that shows a subtle mirrored image.
