Vase, cloisonné enamel, Meiji period 19th/20th century, 1868–1912, attributed to Nagoya, Japan. Cylindrical vessel with a thin short neck widening toward the spout; decorated with cranes iconography. Height 18.3 cm; diameter 10 cm., noted., A teardrop-shaped glossy black vase with a narrow neck and flared rim sits against a gray background, decorated with a group of white birds in flight with touches of red and pale gray on their heads and wings, and gold accents outlining some feathers; the rim and foot of the vase have a metallic bronze tone with a band of pink and darker scalloped detailing, and the vase casts a soft shadow on the surface beneath it.
