Vase in the shape of a sake bottle, on a stem. Short, narrow neck. 19th/20th century Meiji period, Japan, Kyoto. Vessel; height 11.7 cm; diameter 6.5 cm., A cylindrical decorative vessel with a flared neck and foot, both in a mottled reddish-brown with lighter veining, has a central band decorated with a painted scene and framed by narrow gold borders with geometric patterns; the painted scene shows a group of people wearing patterned robes in a pavilion setting with wooden railings, screens, and hanging foliage, and a small child near the seated figures, while the lower edge of the scene includes a waterside area with green and purple plants and grasses; overall colors visible include reddish-brown, gold, green, purple, black, cream, and pale blue-gray.
