Vase by Kinkôzan Sôbei VII 1867–1927, workshop Kinkôzan. Meiji period 1868–1912, 19th/20th century. Japan, Kyoto. Ceramic vase in the shape of a sake bottle, on a stem; short, narrow neck. Decoration: wisterias, irises, bamboos; genre scene elements. Height 11.7 cm; diameter 6.5 cm., A cylindrical vase with a flared neck and a round pedestal base is shown against a neutral gray background. The vase has a mottled reddish-brown surface with lighter veins that give a marbled appearance on the neck and base. Around the middle is a wide painted band bordered by thin decorative gold bands, depicting a scene with a wooden veranda, sliding panels, foliage, and a group of people wearing patterned garments. The painted band includes muted tones of beige, cream, pale blue, soft green, and touches of gold, with additional accents of darker brown and black in architectural details and hair. The lower edge of the painted band shows water and plant life in green and pale purple, and the vase sits on a reflective surface that creates a soft mirror image below.
