Small box with a lid, Kinkôzan Sôbei VII 1867–1927 maker; Kinkôzan workshop. Satsuma ceramics, late 19th century Meiji period, Japan — Kyoto, Awata. Wisteria and butterflies decoration. Lid with a gold knob shaped like a flower; vessel with two slightly convex handles on three wide feet. Signed. Height 6.8 cm; diameter 10.2 cm., A low, round ceramic bowl with a pale cream interior and an off-white exterior sits on a reflective gray surface against a gray background. The bowl has a decorative gold rim and a band of ornate gilded patterning below the rim. Floral garlands in soft colors including pink, blue, green, and purple hang around the exterior among small painted leaves in brown and green. There are gilded handles on the sides with a curved, sculpted shape and a few small gilded decorative accents on the short feet. The overall visible colors include cream, off-white, gold, gray, pink, blue, green, purple, and brown.
