Small box with a lid, Kinkôzan, Sôbei VII 1867–1927 author, Kinkôzan workshop, Japanese, Meiji late 19th century, Japan, Kyoto, Awata. Satsuma ceramics vessel decorated with wisteria and butterflies. The lid has a gold knob in the shape of a flower. The vessel has two slightly convex handles and stands on three wide feet. Signed. Height 6.8 cm; diameter 10.2 cm., A small lidded ceramic vessel with a rounded body and short feet sits against a gray background, the piece predominantly white with extensive gold ornamentation on the lid, rim, handle, and decorative elements; delicate painted floral motifs in shades of purple, blue, pink, green, and brown cascade around the body beneath a band of intricate gold patterning, and a gold knob tops the lid while a gold ornamental handle-like feature decorates the front, with the vessel and its colors reflected faintly on the glossy surface below.
