Vase, Nogawa; workshop; gift; repossession Krakow — A slender miniature vase with a belly widening slightly toward the top and narrow, straight arms. There is no neck; the spout is in the form of a flat ring. The bottom is round, slightly recessed, with an engraved brand. Decoration is sparse: a naturalistically treated wisteria vine placed in the upper part of the belly on one side, from which a sumptuous flower cluster hangs down almost to the end of the vase. Made of silver with gilding and black shakudo patina, the piece combines various metals and alloys for a colorful effect and a darker tone for the decorative motif against the background, blending naturalism with sublime decorativeness. Ca. 1890–1900 Meiji period, 1868–1912. Japan, Kyoto. Vessel. Height 15.7 cm; width 5.3 cm., A tall tapered vase with a smooth surface in a warm brown and amber tone, showing subtle variations of darker and lighter brown; a few raised decorative elements in a darker brown appear on one side, including a cluster of elongated leaves and a trailing floral motif; the background is a uniform light gray gradient.
