Pool — aquarium., Chinese; Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century. Ceramic colored porcelain vessel decorated with chrysanthemums, lotuses and images of birds; bulging form narrowed at the bottom. Height 41.5 cm; diameter 41.1 cm., A white ceramic jar with a rounded body and a wide open rim, decorated with colorful painted imagery including a pair of stylized birds with long flowing tail feathers in shades of pink, teal, and brown, smaller birds in tones of gray and black perched on branches, and a large peony-like flower in shades of pink and red with green leaves. The painted scene also includes tree trunks and foliage in shades of green, teal, and pale yellow, cloud-like scrolls in pale orange, and rock forms in blue and lavender. The rim shows a thin band of worn brown, and the background behind the jar is a dark gray.
