Bell on a stand in the shape of a paifang gate., Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911. Zhong-type bronze bell, missing the upper part of the shaft used for hanging the part above the ring, decorated with an archaized pattern resembling a taotie mask. Wooden stand, gilded, in the shape of a paifang gate with a mount for hanging the bell; after conservation the stand consists of three elements. 18th century bell, 19th century stand. Bell height 34 cm; stand height 64.5 cm. Materials: bronze, wood, gilding. Genres: bells, bronzes, taotie iconography, gates, musical/percussion idiophones., A vertical bronze bell with a greenish patina hangs from a tall reddish-brown wooden stand; the bell shows raised decorative patterns and a weathered surface, and the stand has a carved base and a stepped, ornamental top, all set against a neutral light gray background.
