Zhong-type bronze bell decorated with an archaized tao-tie–like mask; missing the upper part of the shaft used for hanging the part above the ring. Wooden gilded stand in the shape of a paifang gate with a mount for hanging the bell; after conservation the stand consists of three elements. Bell 18th century; stand 19th century; China. Dimensions: stand height 64.5 cm; bell height 34 cm., A carved wooden stand shaped like a small ornate gateway supports a hanging bell; the stand is a rich reddish-brown with curved eaves, decorative tiled roof patterns, scrollwork brackets, and a carved panel in its upper center, and it rests on a rounded stepped base of the same color. The bell suspended within is greenish with areas of brown and gray patina, showing raised abstract geometric relief patterns and a rounded top mount. The background is a smooth light gray.
