Storage vessel with lid, Zôshuntei Sanpo signed Zoshuntei Sampo zo, c. 1842–1878, Arita, Japan. Pear-shaped blue-and-white porcelain storage pot with flat cylindrical lid. Decorated in cobalt in several tones with a Chinese-style landscape: an old man resting under a pine on a rocky cliff overlooking a broad body of water, with a waterfall, lofty peaks, and distant sails; pines, mountains, waterfalls, and sages rendered in a style modeled on Chinese Southern School painting and related to the bunjinga nanga movement. Lower base band of three vertical and two crossed lines; diagonal-line ornamental bands forming triangular motifs at the neck and lid edge; lid decorated with a rock motif. Free-form painting with precise, masterful lines indicating an excellent porcelain decorator. Height 21.8 cm; diameter 15.3 cm., A porcelain jar with a lid shown against a neutral gray background, decorated in blue on a white ground; the jar has a bulbous body tapering toward a narrow base and a short cylindrical neck with a fitted lid, both surfaces painted with flowing blue brushwork depicting stylized rocky forms and landscape-like shapes, along with a depiction of a robed figure integrated into the scene; bands of geometric blue line patterns encircle the neck and the lower body, and the glaze gives the surface a smooth, glossy appearance with subtle variations in blue intensity.
