Censer kôro, Japanese, Meiji period 2nd half of the 19th century. Vessel, height 26.0 cm, width 22.5 cm, weight 2.84 kg. The cover is topped with a full-plastic figurine of a squirrel. The belly is decorated in high relief with a motif of a squirrel on a vine. Two handles are in the shape of grape clusters. Materials and, A round metal vessel viewed from above with a wide circular opening, showing a smooth interior with a warm coppery sheen; the exterior has a darker brownish-bronze patina and decorative raised clusters and leaf-like forms around the rim and sides; the vessel sits on a glossy reflective surface that produces a faint mirror image below; the background is a uniform soft gray.
