Censer kôro, Japanese, Meiji period 2nd half of the 19th century. Vessel, height 26.0 cm, width 22.5 cm, weight 2.84 kg. The cover is topped with a full-plastic figurine of a squirrel. The belly is decorated in high relief with a motif of a squirrel on a vine. Two handles are in the shape of grape clusters. Japanese art; motifs: squirrels, grapes., A round, brown metal vessel lies on its side with a few short cylindrical protrusions extending outward and several raised leaf and grape cluster decorations on its surface, next to a separate brown metal lid topped by a small sculpted animal figure perched among a cluster of grapes and leaves; the background is a uniform pale gray and the objects cast soft reflections on the glossy surface beneath them, with visible colors including brown, pale beige at the ends of the protrusions, and gray.
