Ding-type incense burner koro with cover, Yoshida maker, Meiji period 19th/20th century, Japan, Kyoto. Incense burner with two openwork handles. Cylindrical neck with a partially openwork lattice pattern terminating in crenellation. Domed cover topped with a fo figurine holding a sphere openwork. Engraved and relief patterns over the entire surface, including karashishi/lion, taotie, komainu motifs, meander ornament and plant tendrils. Height 47.0 cm; diameter 29.0 cm., An ornate tripod vessel made of dark brown and bronze-toned metal stands on three flared legs; the rounded body and domed lid feature intricate raised patterns and decorative reliefs, with a prominent sculpted figure perched atop the lid. The upper rim has a crown-like openwork band with scalloped edges and carved motifs, and a vertical decorative panel with swirling designs rises from the rim toward the lid. The surface shows areas of patina with greenish and darker bronze hues contrasted against warmer brown highlights, and the legs display engraved panels and smoother polished brown sections. The background is a neutral light gray.
