Ding-type incense burner koro with cover, Yoshida maker;, noted. Japanese, Meiji period 1868–1912, 19th/20th century. Cast metal with openwork; cylindrical neck with partially open lattice pattern terminating in crenellation; domed cover topped by a fo karashishi/komainu figurine holding a sphere openwork. Incised and repoussé/relief ornament across the surface including taotie, karashishi/lion motifs, meander borders, and plant tendrils. From Kyoto. Incense burner with two openwork handles. Height 47.0 cm; diameter 29.0 cm., An ornate tripod vessel with a rounded body and three flared legs stands against a plain light gray background; the vessel is predominantly brown with darker brown and black areas and a subtle greenish patina in places, and it is richly decorated with carved and relief patterns all over its surface, including stylized swirling and geometric motifs; a lid with a carved beast finial sits on top, and a tall decorative handle or crest with openwork scrolling designs rises above the lid, showing the same dark brown and black tones as the rest of the piece.
