Cylindrical neck with a partially openwork lattice pattern terminating in crenellation. Domed cover topped with a fo figurine holding a sphere openwork. Engraved and relief patterns over the entire surface. 19th/20th century Meiji period, Kyoto, Japan. Height 47.0 cm; diameter 29.0 cm., An ornate metal vessel stands on three rounded legs, each leg showing a smooth brown surface with darker brown shading and raised decorative panels. The body of the vessel is bulbous with a carved band of swirling and stylized motifs in brown and darker bronze tones wrapping around it, and a pair of sculpted animal heads in darker metal projecting from the sides. A pierced lattice band appears near the top in darker brown metal, above which a scalloped rim with openwork flourishes encircles the lid. Two high, curved handles extend from opposite sides, featuring intricate openwork and a darker bronze color. The domed lid is topped by a sculptural creature in dark brown and bronze tones with a curled tail and a rounded object beneath one paw, the creature showing textured detailing and polished highlights. The overall color palette includes shades of brown, dark bronze, and hints of black, set against a neutral gray background.
