Sword hilt cap kashira, Japanese, Edo–Meiji period 19th century. Melee weapon hilt cap decorated with two flowerpots: one with a dwarf pine tree, the other with a dwarf flowering plum tree; on the reverse a flowering tree seedling with wrapped roots. Materials/technique unspecified. Function: kashira katana hilt cap. Dimensions: height 0.9 cm, width 3.7 cm, depth 2.0 cm., A dark brown horizontal band with a decorative motif sits against a uniform gray background; the motif includes a small plant in a pot rendered with black and gold accents and a separate gold-colored container, and there are touches of gold and black forming stylized leaves and branches across the band.
