Vase with cover, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, 18th century; porcelain imari, decorated with flowers, tree, bamboos, peonies, and karashishi; vessel; height 25.5 cm, diameter 16 cm., A rounded ceramic vase with a wide mouth and a short foot, decorated with a complex painted pattern in blue, red, white, black, green, and brown. The background features deep blue areas with flowing wave-like shapes and scattered white cartouche shapes filled with red floral motifs. A prominent white panel outlined in black on the front shows red-painted bamboo and floral elements with small touches of green and yellow. Around the base and shoulder are red flower designs and stylized decorative borders in blue and red. The mouth interior appears off-white with some brown speckling, and the vase sits on a reflective grey surface against a neutral grey background.
