Vase with cover, Japanese, Edo period 18th century, imari ceramics decorated with flowers, tree, bamboos, peonies and karashishi lion-dog iconography; vessel, height 25.5 cm, diameter 16 cm., A lidded porcelain jar with a sculpted finial sits against a plain gray background; the finial is white and depicts a small figure with a textured surface. The jar body is bulbous with a flared rim on the lid and is decorated with an overall palette of blue, red, white, and touches of green; the dominant background decorations are blue with red floral motifs and white cartouche-shaped panels that contain red floral designs and small green accents. The surface shows swirling blue patterns, red blossoms, and stylized leaves, with a band of red and blue ornamental motifs near the base and lid, and the jar rests on a white foot that reflects faintly on the surface below.
