Vase with cover, Japanese, Edo period 18th century, imari porcelain vessel decorated with flowers, tree motifs, bamboos, peonies, and karashishi; height 25.5 cm, diameter 16 cm., A lidded porcelain jar with a glossy finish sits against a neutral gray background, predominantly decorated in deep blue and rich red with areas of white and small touches of green and gold. The lid is topped by a white sculpted figure. The body of the jar features ornate floral and wave-like patterns in blue and red, with a white panel on the front containing a botanical scene rendered mainly in red and accented with green and pale gold. The rim and base have banded decorative motifs in the same blue and red palette, and the jar's curved silhouette is reflected faintly on the surface beneath it.
