Blue-and-white porcelain vessel shaped like a wooden hammer/pestle with a wide cylindrical neck terminating in a round ring, angular shoulders and an oval belly tapering toward the base; height 46.0 cm. Surface densely painted with fo lion motifs playing with a rag ball among clouds; ring around the neck decorated with a meander., A tall ceramic vase with a cylindrical neck and rounded body sits against a dark background, decorated in blue on a white ground with a repeating motif of stylized mythical creatures and swirling cloud-like forms; the blue decoration varies in tone from deep cobalt to lighter blue washes, and the white ceramic shows a glossy surface with subtle reflections.
