Pot with a cover, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 18th century. Blue-and-white porcelain storage vessel with decorative figurative scenes and images of birds; possibly a Japanese product exported to Europe imitating Chinese wares. Height 58.5 cm; diameter 37 cm., A porcelain jar with a lid sits against a dark background, decorated in blue on a white ground; the jar has a rounded body that tapers toward the base and a domed lid topped with a small sculpted finial. The surface shows blue-painted floral motifs including a central flowering plant with leaves and blossoms, a group of standing human figures in traditional clothing holding objects, a few flying birds, and decorative scrollwork around the neck and rim. The visible colors are blue, white, and dark gray from the backdrop, with subtle off-white tones on the ceramic and faint brown at the base edge.
