Pot with a cover, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 18th century. Blue-and-white porcelain storage vessel decorated with figurative scenes and images of birds; possibly a Japanese product exported to Europe imitating Chinese wares. Height 58.5 cm; diameter 37 cm., A porcelain lidded jar shown against a dark background with a smooth white surface painted in blue. The jar has a rounded body tapering toward the base and a domed lid topped with a small sculpted figure. Blue painted floral branches and large blossoms decorate the central area, flanked by a group of standing human figures on each side wearing long robes. Decorative blue cloudlike and scroll motifs encircle the neck and shoulder, and a narrow band of patterned decoration runs near the rim. A small bird is visible in blue on the upper body, and the lid features additional blue-painted scenes and motifs. The visible colors are white and shades of blue set against a dark gray background.
