Bian hu moon pilgrim bottle, 17th century China, blue-and-white porcelain vessel decorated with figurative scenes of circus performers, floral tendrils and plant ornaments; height 15 cm, diameter 3.5 cm., A small round ceramic vessel with a short cylindrical neck and a flattened base, decorated in blue on a white ground; the body shows a circular painted scene with a group of people wearing flowing garments, and the neck and surrounding areas feature floral and scrolling motifs; there are sculpted dragon-like handles on either side of the neck, and the base edge has vertical banding; visible colors include blue and white, with subtle gray reflections from the surface.
