Miniature of a chariot; maker, 19th century India; model of a temple chariot depicting peacocks and birds. A bird sits on a bow-shaped shaft. Under a canopy topped with a pike sit figures: Krishna feeding on butter; in front, in the driver's seat, there is also Krishna. Materials/technique not specified. Height 24.0 cm, width 28.0 cm., An aged metallic object with a long tapered handle and a crossbar end lies on a reflective surface; the metal shows a mottled patina of brown, dark brown, and muted gold tones. Attached to the wider end of the object is a rectangular block from which a group of dome-shaped caps project; the domes are bronze-colored with darker perforated patterns and lighter golden rims, and each dome has a small rounded finial on top. The rectangular block and connecting posts share the same brown and gold worn metallic finish, and the reflection beneath the object repeats the brown, gold, and darker shadowed hues. The background is a smooth pale gray.
