Mirror with TLV decoration on a pedestal in the form of a qilin on a base. Chinese, Qing dynasty, 18th century mirror cast from an earlier product, possibly 6th century onward. Materials: mirror—cast from chiseled bronze with flat-relief TLV decoration: centrally placed knob enclosed in a square with four T-like motifs attached, L- and V-shaped motifs at the edge; unicorn qilin—cast from chiseled bronze; base—carved wood. Sculpture/mirror, height 26 cm, diameter 16.2 cm., A sculpted dark brown object in the shape of a reclining animal with curved horns and decorative raised patterns sits to the right, showing smooth rounded forms and a slightly glossy surface; to the left a low, organic-shaped wooden stand in warm reddish-brown with carved, irregular edges and short legs rests on the same surface. The background is a gradient of pale gray to off-white. Colors visible include dark brown, reddish-brown, gray, black, and off-white.
