Mirror with TLV decoration on a pedestal in the form of a qilin on a base. Chinese; Qing dynasty 1644–1911. Mirror: cast from chiseled bronze, decoration in flat relief—centrally placed knob enclosed in a square with four T-shaped motifs attached; L- and V-shaped motifs at the edge. Unicorn qilin: cast from chiseled bronze. Base: carved wood. 18th century mirror cast from an earlier product, possibly 6th century–?. Sculpture, mirror. Height 26 cm; diameter 16.2 cm., A dark brown sculpted figure of a reclining bovine with stylized curved horns and carved decorative swirls on its back rests on a polished reddish-brown wooden base; the bovine has a smooth, slightly glossy surface with subtle lighter brown highlights and rounded limbs, and behind its head a crescent-shaped element rises with cloud-like carved motifs, all shown against a pale gray background.
