Candlestick mash'al, Islamic art, Persian, Safavid dynasty 1501–1736. Metal candlestick in the form of a column standing on a low, widening base; three sections separated by hachured rings. Decoration: stylized plant ornament and a zigzag on the 10-faceted shaft; dense tendril pattern filling the background. Bands of inscriptions: just under the upper edge a band in nast'alik script Persian; an inscription in Armenian characters on the base edge of purely decorative value. Figural decoration: hunting scenes with riders and horses—figures of riders at the base and in the upper part. 17th/18th century, Iran. Candlestick. Height 28.0 cm; diameter 17.3 cm; weight 0.71 kg., A circular, ring-shaped object viewed from the front with a hollow center, showing textured, pitted surfaces and an uneven rim; the interior surfaces display a mix of brown and dark gray with areas of lighter gray around the inner edge, and the outer rim has a thin band of muted yellowish-bronze; the background is a smooth, pale off-white and the object casts a soft reflection on a glossy surface below.
