Four-armed Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara Chaturbhuja, Buddhist/Tibetan/Himalayan/Sino-Tibetan/Chinese art. The Bodhisattva shown in a tantric form called shadakshari: single-headed, four-armed figure seated in meditation on a lotus throne. One pair of hands in the namaskara mudra; the other holds a lotus flower and a rosary almost unpreserved apart from one element. Dressed as a bodhisattva with a crown, earrings, necklace, inlaid bracelets on wrists and ankles, a sash flowing from shoulders to forearms, an antelope skin draped over the left shoulder, and a foot-long bandage with a floral pattern around the lower body. A coiffed hair knot is topped by the head of Amitabha. Plaque closing the base is missing. 2nd half of the 18th century. China/Tibet. Sculpture. Height 22.5 cm; width 14.5 cm; depth 9.5 cm., The image shows the rear view of a gold-colored statue seated on an ornamental base against a plain gray background, with a few areas of darker patina; the figure has a dark brown hair or headpiece with sculpted details and floral-like adornments at the sides, a rounded topknot, and a draped garment over the shoulders; the back reveals a beaded necklace and decorative belts and pendants around the waist, with ornate patterned embellishments on the base; the statue’s arms are raised to the sides with hands held in delicate gestures, and the surface shows a mix of bright gold, darker golden-brown, and small darker spots of wear.
