Hu-type vase, Chinese, Qing 1644–1911, 18th–19th century. A hu-type ritual bronze vessel with an ovoid-shaped belly, a cylindrical neck straight at the rim, and a high conical-foot. Semicircular clubs attached to the collar. Rich relief decoration on the belly emphasized with engraving. Classic decorative motifs: taotie masks, mythical kui animals, stylized birds, dragons, Chinese symbols and geometric patterns. Ritual vessel; height 59.5 cm, width 40.0 cm, weight 19.0 kg., A large rounded metal vessel with a narrow flared neck and a wide foot, shown against a plain light gray background. The vessel has an overall aged brown and bronze patina with darker and lighter areas, and a few greenish and reddish tints visible on the surface. The body is decorated with several horizontal bands of low-relief geometric and stylized motifs, and there are a few raised loop handles on the shoulder. The foot and neck also feature banded decorative patterns. The surface shows subtle unevenness, small dents, and areas of wear that contribute to a weathered appearance.
