Hu-type vessel, bronze, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century; ceremonial/ritual vessel with taotie iconography and meander ornament; height 28.0 cm, width 19.0 cm., A tall, narrow metal vessel with a rounded base and flared neck, showing a dark brown and greenish patina with areas of lighter brown and black; the body is divided into several vertical panels each decorated with raised, intricate carved motifs and repeating geometric borders; a decorative ring handle hangs from a sculpted mask or animal face near the upper neck; the surface shows varied textures from smooth to finely incised patterns and a subtle reflective sheen on the base.
