Amitayus, Tibetan Buddhist Sino-Tibetan style, Qing dynasty 1644–1911. Buddha of Infinite Life Amitayus seated in meditative pose with hands folded in a meditative gesture. Hair styled in a chignon with a high bun tied on top, hair colored blue; adorned with a five-leaf crown inlaid with semi-precious stones set on a headband mounted on the underside. Back painted orange. Missing: hair flowing to the shoulders, shoulder sash, stones, and earrings probably large, flower-shaped, falling on the shoulders. Bottom closed with a wooden plaque secured with metal pins and mortar; plaque bears a drawing of a quadruple vajra. Inscribed. Sculpture, 1770, China. Height 22.0 cm, width 11.5 cm, depth 8.9 cm., A gilded seated figure on a carved pedestal, with a decorative ornate halo behind the head; the figure wears a crown and has stylized curled hair, earrings, armlets, and draped garments, with hands resting in its lap; the pedestal and halo feature swirling floral and scroll motifs. The visible colors are gold, dark brown, and gray.
