Crossguard tsuba, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, early 18th century, weapons — katana sword crossguard tsuba, maru gata round, rectangular edge kaku mimi, oval ryôhitsu-ana blinded with shakudo. Decorated with a phoenix hoo perched on a willow tree cut out in positive openwork yô sukashi; decoration and edge have gold inlay using the nunome technique. Aizu-Shoami school; not signed. Dimensions: height 8.4 cm, width 8.2 cm, depth 0.45 cm., A round metal object with an openwork design showing a central oval opening and a few curved cutouts, decorated with a group of stylized organic shapes resembling branches and leaves and a bird-like form; the surface is dark brown with areas of worn gold-colored detailing and a few grayish raised ridged sections, all set against a plain gray background.
