Crossguard tsuba, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, early 18th century, weapons — katana crossguard tsuba, maru gata round, kaku mimi rectangular edge, ryôhitsu-ana oval blinded with shakudô. Decorated in positive openwork yô sukashi with a hoo phoenix perched on a willow tree; decoration and edge have gold inlay using the nunome technique. Aizu-Shôami style. Not signed. Dimensions: height 8.4 cm, width 8.2 cm, depth 0.45 cm., A round dark metal object with a central oval opening and an irregular cutout, decorated with areas of gold detailing; a stylized bird with outstretched wings appears near the top right, and a group of hanging, leaf-like forms dangles toward the lower left and center; two rounded, ribbed panels flank the central opening and are outlined in gold; ornate, fan-shaped gold patterns fill the left and right edges of the circle; the surface shows textured, carved branches and organic shapes, with a color palette of dark brown or black metal and bright gold accents against a neutral gray background.
